HydroGEN Director Huyen Dinh was honored with a 2023 Colorado Women’s Day National Renewable Energy Laboratory Foundation Award for Outstanding Woman in STEM. The award is presented annually to a Colorado woman for her achievements in a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) field either as an inventor, businesswoman, advocate for STEM, or educator.  

"It is nice to be recognized as a woman of color, a leader doing significant and impactful STEM research,” Huyen said. “It’s imperative to me that more women of color are recognized and celebrated for their achievements. This will inspire more minorities to venture into and succeed in STEM careers.”

Huyen has more than 25 years of experience in direct methanol, hydrogen polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM), and zinc/air fuel cells, as well as hydrogen production technologies at national laboratories and in industry. At NREL, she is the hydrogen production lead, group manager, a lead of the Asian Employee Resource Group, a mentor for numerous researchers as part of the Women’s Employee Resource Group, and active in leadership teams championing workforce development and diversity, equity, and inclusion opportunities for the organization at large.
